Button Moon was a popular British TV show for kids. It was shown in the United Kingdom during the 1980s on the ITV network. Each episode was produced by Thames Television and lasted about ten minutes.
The show followed the exciting adventures of Mr. Spoon. In every episode, he would travel to Button Moon in his homemade rocket ship. What made the characters special was that they were all based on kitchen items. Even many of the things they used were kitchen tools!
Once on Button Moon, which floated in a place called "blanket sky," they would have a new adventure. They often looked through Mr. Spoon's telescope to see stories like The Tortoise and the Hare. After their adventures, they would fly back home to 'Junk Planet'. Mr. Spoon's family, including his wife Mrs. Spoon, their daughter Tina Tea-Spoon, and her friend Eggbert, were also part of the fun. The series finished in 1988 after a total of 91 episodes.
Protecting Button Moon's Characters
In 2013, the person who created Button Moon took action to protect the show's characters. They successfully stopped a company from selling toys and items that looked too much like the characters from the show. This was done to make sure the original creator's work was respected and protected.
This event was even shown on a TV programme called The Sheriffs Are Coming on BBC One.
About the Episodes
Button Moon ran for seven series, with a total of 91 episodes. Each episode was a new adventure for Mr. Spoon and his family. They often explored Button Moon and helped out its unique residents.
What Happened in the Episodes?
In the episodes, Mr. Spoon and his friends would often solve problems or learn new things. They met many interesting characters, like Captain Large and the Bottle Army. They also saw different stories through Mr. Spoon's special telescope. These stories often taught simple lessons, just like classic fables.
For example, in one episode, Mr. Spoon helped some cups find their lost saucers. In another, he saw a caterpillar turn into a butterfly. The show always had a gentle and imaginative feel, making it a favorite for many children.
