C.D. Chivas USA facts for kids
Club Deportivo Chivas USA was an American soccer team. They played in Major League Soccer (MLS) in Carson, California. The team started playing in 2005. Their home games were played at the same stadium as the Los Angeles Galaxy.
When Chivas USA was formed, it was meant to be like a "little brother" to a very popular Mexican team called C.D. Guadalajara. The word "Chivas" means "goats" in Spanish, and it's the nickname for C.D. Guadalajara. The team was first owned by two Mexican businessmen. One of them also owned C.D. Guadalajara.
About Chivas USA
Chivas USA was created to connect with soccer fans who loved the Mexican team C.D. Guadalajara. The idea was to bring that same passion to the MLS in the United States. They shared their home stadium, the StubHub Center (formerly Home Depot Center), with their local rivals, the LA Galaxy.
Why Chivas USA Ended
Over time, the team faced problems. Not enough fans came to their games, and there were issues with how the team was owned. Because of these problems, Major League Soccer bought the team back in February 2014. MLS planned to sell the team to new owners who would give it a new name.
In September 2014, the team was sold to a new group. As part of this sale, Chivas USA stopped playing at the end of the 2014 season. A brand new team, Los Angeles FC, started playing in 2017. This new team took the place of Chivas USA in the league.
