Cabinda (also called Kabinda) is a special part of Angola. It is a province, which is like a large region within a country. The main city in this province is also named Cabinda.

About Cabinda
Cabinda is unique because it is separated from the rest of Angola. A thin strip of land belonging to the Democratic Republic of the Congo lies between them. To the north, Cabinda shares a border with the Republic of the Congo. To the west, it meets the Atlantic Ocean.

History and Peace
Cabinda was once known as Portuguese Congo. This was during a time when Portugal had colonies in Africa. It became part of Angola when the Alvor Agreement was signed on January 15, 1975.
Angola had a long civil war that ended in 2002. Even though the main war is over, there have been some disagreements in Cabinda. People are working towards lasting peace in the region.
