Cabiria Andreian Cazacu (born February 19, 1928 – died May 22, 2018) was a famous Romanian mathematician. She was known for her important work in a field of math called complex analysis.

She taught mathematics at the University of Bucharest for many years. From 1976 to 1984, she was even the dean of the math faculty there. This means she was in charge of the whole math department!

Her Life and Studies

Cabiria Andreian Cazacu was born in Iași, Romania, on February 19, 1928. Her father was a math teacher, so she grew up around numbers and learning.

Towards the end of World War II, her family became refugees and moved to Bucharest. She finished high school there in 1945. After that, she went to the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Bucharest. She earned her first university degree in 1949.

She continued her studies at the university, first as a teaching assistant and then as a lecturer. In 1955, she earned her doctorate degree. A doctorate is a very high university degree, showing you are an expert in your field. Her teacher for this was a famous mathematician named Simion Stoilow.

After earning her doctorate, she became an associate professor in 1955. She was promoted to a full professor in 1968.

From 1951 to 1969, Cabiria Andreian Cazacu also worked as a researcher at the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy. She was a key part of a special group that studied complex analysis.

She also visited and worked at universities in other countries. These included the Free University of Berlin in Germany, the Université libre de Bruxelles in Belgium, and the University of Helsinki in Finland.

Between 1976 and 2010, she helped 15 students earn their own doctorate degrees. She guided them through their research and studies.

Cabiria Andreian Cazacu passed away on May 22, 2018, in Bucharest. She was buried at Ghencea Cemetery.
