The Caerphilly Food Festival is a super fun yearly event that happens in Caerphilly, a town in South Wales. It's all about delicious food and exciting activities for everyone!
What is the Caerphilly Food Festival?
Every May, the streets of Caerphilly come alive with the Food Festival. It's a huge, free event where you can explore lots of different food stalls. Imagine around 100 different sellers bringing their tasty treats for everyone to try!
Caerphilly is famous for its special Caerphilly cheese, even though it's not made in the town anymore. The festival celebrates this history! You'll find a special area just for cheese at Twyn car park. There's also a fantastic farmers' market where you can find fresh, local produce.
Fun Things to Do at the Festival
Beyond the food, there's so much more to enjoy! The festival has many exciting activities, including:
- A craft fair where you can find unique handmade items.
- Face painting to transform you into your favorite character.
- Lively puppet shows that tell amazing stories.
- Exciting falconry displays, showing off incredible birds of prey.
- Gentle donkey rides for a fun experience.
- Thrilling fun fair rides for all ages.
- Amazing street theatre performances that will entertain you as you walk around.
Celebrating Welsh Legends
In 2017, the festival had a special theme: local myths and legends! This was part of a bigger campaign called "Year of Legends" by Visit Wales. The idea was to bring famous Welsh stories and characters to life during the festival.
This meant you could see street theatre performances inspired by legends. There were also special storytelling sessions, and even food and music that celebrated these ancient tales. It was a great way to learn about Welsh history and culture while having fun!
