A Look Back: Cairo's History

Early Days and Growth

Cairo once had its own post office. This was open from 1887 until 1922. Imagine getting your mail right there in Cairo!

In 1910, Cairo was a small place. Its population was only 30 people. Even so, it was an important spot.

The Railroad Connection

Cairo had a station on the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad. This railroad line was called the Wichita & Pratt division. The train station helped Cairo become a shipment point. This meant that goods and products from the farms nearby were sent out from Cairo.
