Cairo, Stark County, Ohio facts for kids
Cairo is a small place in Ohio, United States, that isn't officially a town or city. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it doesn't have its own local government, like a mayor or city council. Instead, it's managed by the larger Stark County government. Cairo sits right on the edge of two areas called Lake Township and Plain Township.
Cairo is located about 1,145 feet (349 meters) above sea level, which means it's quite high up! It's also part of the bigger Canton–Massillon metropolitan area. This is a large urban region that includes several cities and their surrounding communities, where many people live and work.
History of Cairo
Cairo was never formally planned out on a map, which is what "not officially platted" means. Even though it wasn't a formal town, it did have a post office for many years. The Cairo post office first opened in 1850. It helped people send and receive letters and packages for over 50 years before it closed down in 1904.
