Cakes da Killa's Music Journey
Starting Out in Music (2011)
Rashard Bradshaw started rapping just for fun in high school. He would write songs over music he found online. Then he posted them on Facebook. In 2011, a music producer named Stixx noticed his homemade songs. Stixx invited Bradshaw to be on a mixtape called Downtown Mayhem Vol. 1. After that, Bradshaw released his own first mixtape, Easy Bake Oven, Vol. 1. It was released through Stixx's Downtown Mayhem label.
Cakes da Killa became popular as a new artist in hip hop. He gained attention for his unique style and sound. Many media outlets wrote about his music. He says artists like Erykah Badu, Busta Rhymes, Remy Ma, Lil' Kim, Foxy Brown, Cam'ron, Nicki Minaj, and Bette Midler have influenced his work.
Growing Popularity and New Music (2012–2015)
Cakes da Killa's second mixtape, The Eulogy, was released for free in 2013. It became very popular after getting good reviews from Pitchfork. Pitchfork praised his bold and unique style. The mixtape's title originally meant he planned to stop making music. But he later changed his mind.
Before becoming a full-time rapper, Bradshaw worked at Paper Magazine. He also helped promote parties in New York City. In May 2013, Bradshaw earned his college degree in fashion studies. He studied at Montclair State University. In September 2013, he released an EP for his popular song "I Run This Club". This song used a sample from M.I.A.'s song of the same name. He later released a Remixes version of this EP. It included other artists like Fat Tony and Spank Rock.
In June 2014, Bradshaw released a nine-song mixtape called Hunger Pangs. To promote it, he appeared on the Hot 97 radio show Ebro in the Morning. He even performed a freestyle live on the radio. In 2015, Bradshaw released a 5-track EP called #IMF. This EP told a story about a modern-day relationship.
Studio Albums and Recent Work (2016–Present)
In October 2016, Bradshaw released his first official album, Hedonism. It was released on the Ruffians label. In October 2019, Bradshaw appeared on the Netflix show Rhythm + Flow. This was a reality competition where he auditioned for Cardi B, Jadakiss, and Fat Joe. After this show, Bradshaw released several new songs in 2020. One of these was "Don Dada" from his EP Muvaland, which came out in November 2020. In 2022, Bradshaw released his second studio album, Svengali.
