Caldera is a special area in Costa Rica called a district. It is part of the Esparza canton, which is like a county. This canton is located in the Puntarenas province, a larger region in the country.

How Caldera Was Formed
Caldera is quite a new district! It was officially created on April 7, 2014. This happened because of a special law called Ley 9235.
Where is Caldera?
Caldera is a small place. It covers an area of about 62.01 square kilometers. To imagine this, it's like a square with sides about 7.8 kilometers long. It is also very close to the sea, with an elevation of only 7 meters above sea level.
