Chinchorro Culture Sculpture
In 2010, a huge sculpture was put up in the town. It celebrates the Chinchorro Culture. This culture was made up of ancient people who lived in this area thousands of years ago. They are famous for being the first people in the world to mummify their dead.
The sculpture is very big. It stands four and a half meters (about 15 feet) tall. It also weighs eight tons, which is like eight small cars! You can find it near two old archaeological sites called 'Camarones 14 and 15'. These sites are where scientists have found many clues about the Chinchorro people.
The Mayor of the town officially opened the sculpture. Its goal is to help people in Chile and around the world learn about the Chinchorro Culture. Since 1998, there have been efforts to add Chinchorro sites to the UNESCO list. This list includes places that are very important to human history and culture.
The sculpture was created by a local artist named Paola Pimentel.
