What's the Story of Calico?
Calico got its name from something interesting! Back in 1882, a post office was opened in this community. It stayed open for about 20 years, closing in 1902.
The name "Calico" comes from a type of fabric. This area was once a busy trading spot where people bought and sold calico cloth. Calico is a plain-woven cotton fabric that's usually unbleached and not fully processed. It was very popular for making clothes and other items because it was affordable. So, the community was named after this important product that was traded there!
