Calla has been around for a long time! A post office, which is where people send and receive mail, was opened in Calla in 1889. This post office served the community for many years, finally closing its doors in 1933.

Early Community Life

Even before the post office, Calla was a place where people gathered. An Evangelical church, a type of Christian church, was established there even earlier, in 1864. This shows that Calla has been a community with a strong sense of togetherness for over 150 years.
