Calm, Missouri facts for kids
Calm is a small, quiet place in southeastern Oregon County, located in the beautiful Ozarks region of southern Missouri. It's not a big city or town, but rather an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city does. You can find Calm where two roads meet: Missouri Route 142 and Missouri Route UU. It's also very close to nature, just one mile east of the Eleven Point River and two miles west of the border between Oregon and Ripley counties.
History of Calm
The name "Calm" for this community has an interesting story! A post office was opened here in 1898. It helped people send and receive mail for about nine years, closing down in 1907. People say the area was named "Calm" because it was a very peaceful and quiet place. There wasn't much noise, which made it a truly calm neighborhood.
