Calvin Anthony Duncan (born March 21, 1961) is an American pastor and a former professional basketball player. Today, Duncan is a pastor at the Faith & Family Church in Richmond, Virginia. He played basketball for Oak Hill Academy and the Virginia Commonwealth University Rams. He was chosen by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 1985 NBA draft. However, instead of playing in the NBA, he joined Athletes in Action, which is a Christian sports team that travels and plays games.
Basketball Career
When he played for Oak Hill Academy in the 1980–81 season, Calvin set a school record by scoring 61 points in one game! Later, another player named Brandon Jennings scored even more, with 63 points.
Calvin is also a member of the VCU Rams Hall of Fame. While playing for VCU, he was named the Sun Belt Conference co-Player of the Year in 1983. He shared this award with Charlie Bradley from the University of South Florida.
After finishing his college career, Duncan was picked by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the second round of the 1985 NBA draft. This was the 30th pick overall. He did not play in the NBA. However, he did play in the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) for teams like the Cedar Rapids Silver Bullets and Tri-City Chinook.
About His Life
Calvin Duncan's mother passed away when he was born. He was raised by his aunt in Linden, New Jersey, as he did not know his father. After his junior year at Linden High School, he moved to Oak Hill Academy. He hoped to get good enough grades there to play Division I basketball in college. Division I is the highest level of college sports in the United States.
At Virginia Commonwealth University, Calvin earned a degree in criminal justice. He lives in Richmond, Virginia, with his wife Barbara and their three children, Richard, Chelsea, and Azell.
