How CamGlen Radio Started
The idea for CamGlen Radio began around 2004-2005. The station first went on air in May 2007. This was under a special "Restricted Service Licence." This type of licence lets a station broadcast for a short time.
After this first broadcast, CamGlen Radio did eleven more short-term broadcasts. During these times, they also planned to apply for a full-time licence. They sent in a big application on February 13, 2012. On July 20, 2012, they got exciting news! They were given a community radio licence for full-time broadcasting.
The station kept doing short broadcasts while getting ready for the full-time launch. The full-time launch was first planned for July 17, 2014. However, it was delayed. This was because their parent group, Healthy n Happy, received a large grant. This money was for fixing up their main building. This building was a former church hall at 18 Farmeloan Road, Rutherglen.
Because of the building work, they launched eight months later than planned. They broadcast from a temporary place at first. The repairs on "Number 18" took longer than expected. But finally, on September 7, 2015, they moved into their permanent home. This was on the second floor of "Number 18." They started broadcasting from there five days later. The building officially opened on October 9, 2015. A launch party with local bands was broadcast live on CamGlen Radio that day.
What You Can Hear on CamGlen Radio
CamGlen Radio is located right in its broadcast area. Its licence has rules about what they play. During the day, their shows usually have three parts music for every one part speech. In the evenings, they play a wider variety of music.
A big rule is that 90% of what they broadcast must be made locally. This means it's produced by people in the Rutherglen and Cambuslang area. The station must also broadcast local shows for at least thirteen hours every day. Out of these hours, at least eight hours must be new content. This means it cannot be a repeat of a show they have already played.
