Cameron Munster, born on September 13, 1994, is an Australian professional rugby league player. He plays for the Melbourne Storm team in the National Rugby League (NRL). He also leads the Queensland team as captain in the State of Origin games.
Many experts, like famous players Andrew Johns and Johnathan Thurston, think Cameron is one of the best players in the world. They especially praise him as one of the top five-eighths in the NRL's history.
Munster has played for Queensland in State of Origin, winning five series. He even captained one of these wins. In the 2020 series, he won the Wally Lewis Medal as the best player. He has also played for Australia internationally. He helped Australia win the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.
Cameron has played in four NRL Grand Finals, winning two of them. He played as a fullback in the 2016 NRL Grand Final. He was a five-eighth in the 2017 NRL Grand Final, 2018 NRL Grand Final, and 2020 NRL Grand Final. He won the 2017 and 2020 Grand Finals with the Melbourne Storm. He also won the 2018 World Club Challenge with them.

Early Life and Junior Career
Cameron Munster was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia. He went to Berserker Street State School and then Emmaus College, Rockhampton.
He started playing junior rugby league for the North Knights. Later, he joined the Central Queensland Capras in the Queensland Cup. In June 2013, he signed a two-year contract with the Melbourne Storm.
On September 21, 2013, he was named the Queensland Cup Rookie of the Year.
Playing Career Highlights
Starting in the NRL (2014-2015)
In 2014, Munster played for the Storm's junior team before moving to their Queensland Cup team. He signed a contract extension with the Storm until 2017. In May, he played for the Queensland Under-20s team. He made his first NRL appearance for the Storm in Round 12 of the 2014 NRL season.
In 2015, Munster returned to the Storm team. He filled in for the injured Billy Slater at fullback. He scored his first NRL try in a game against the Canberra Raiders. When Billy Slater was out for the rest of the year, Munster took over the fullback role. He scored three tries in a game against the Gold Coast Titans. He played 19 matches and scored 7 tries in the 2015 NRL season.
Becoming a Key Player (2016-2017)
In January 2016, Munster was chosen for the Queensland Emerging Origin squad. However, he was excluded from representative programs for 12 months due to breaking curfew. He played in the 2016 NRL Auckland Nines. He started the 2016 season playing at centre.
After Billy Slater's injury, Munster became the main fullback for the rest of the season. In May 2016, he extended his contract with the Melbourne Storm until the end of 2019. On October 2, 2016, he played fullback in the 2016 NRL Grand Final, where the Storm lost. He played 24 matches and scored 4 tries in the 2016 NRL season.
In 2017, Munster was expected to play five-eighth after Blake Green left. When Billy Slater returned from injury, Munster moved to five-eighth. He played well alongside Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk, and Billy Slater.
Munster was chosen for the Queensland Origin Squad for Game 2 of the 2017 State of Origin series. He made his State of Origin debut in Game 3, playing five-eighth. He helped Queensland win the series. On October 1, 2017, he played five-eighth in the 2017 NRL Grand Final, which the Storm won. He played 21 matches, scored 1 try, and kicked 12 goals in the 2017 NRL season.
After the NRL season, Munster was selected for the Australian team for the 2017 Rugby League World Cup. He made his international debut against France, scoring 2 tries.
Grand Finals and World Cup Win (2018-2022)
In 2018, Munster played in the 2018 World Club Challenge and the 2018 NRL Grand Final. He was sent off twice in the Grand Final loss to the Sydney Roosters. One incident involved him kicking a Roosters player. In November 2018, he signed a new contract with Melbourne until 2023.
In the 2019 NRL season, Munster played 24 games as the Storm finished first. He played in the preliminary final loss against the Sydney Roosters. In October 2019, he was named in the Australian team for the Oceania Cup.
On October 25, 2020, Munster played for Melbourne in their 26–20 Grand Final win over Penrith. In November 2020, he scored his first State of Origin try. He was named man of the match and man of the series for the 2020 State of Origin series, which Queensland won.
In 2021, Munster played for Queensland in Game 1 of the 2021 State of Origin series. He was placed on report for kicking an opponent during that game and again the following week in an NRL match. He played 21 games for Melbourne in the 2021 NRL season. The Storm won 19 matches in a row and finished first. They lost in the preliminary final to the Penrith Panthers.
In 2022, rugby league legend Andrew Johns praised Munster, saying he was "in another stratosphere." Munster was Man of the Match in Game 1 of the State of Origin, which Queensland won. He scored his second Origin try in Game 2. However, he missed the Origin decider due to testing positive for COVID-19. In Round 21, he scored his second career hat-trick playing at fullback. On October 3, 2022, he was named in the Australian squad for the 2022 World Cup. On October 6, 2022, he signed a new four-year contract with the Storm until 2027.
Recent Seasons (2023-2025)
Munster played in all three games of the 2023 State of Origin series, which Queensland won 2-1. He played 22 games for Melbourne in the 2023 NRL season. The team finished third and lost in the preliminary final to Penrith.
In 2024, Munster injured his groin in Round 11 but returned later in the season. He confirmed he would need surgery at the end of the year. On August 21, 2024, he became a life member of the Melbourne Storm. He played 17 games as the Storm finished first. He played in the 2024 NRL Grand Final loss against Penrith. During the game, he was placed on report for an alleged biting incident.
In 2025, Munster played in all three State of Origin matches. He left the team camp before Game 3 due to the death of his father but still played in the game on July 10, 2025.
Personal Life
Cameron Munster married Bianca McMahon on December 31, 2023. His father, Steven, passed away on July 6, 2025.
