Camila Moreno's Music Journey
Early Music Projects
Between 2006 and 2008, Camila was part of a music group called Caramelitus. She formed this duo with Tomás Preuss. Together, they created electronic pop music. Their work received good reviews from music critics.
Becoming a Star
Camila Moreno became well-known after releasing her first album, Almismotiempo (which means "At-the-same-time"), in 2009. That same year, she was nominated for a Latin Grammy Award. This award was for Best Alternative Song, specifically for her song "Millones." Many people say her voice, folk style, and song lyrics carry on the tradition of Violeta Parra. Violeta Parra is a very important Chilean folk artist. Camila has been called the "Chilean revelation of organic rock" by Petit Indie.
Mala Madre and Awards
On June 4, 2015, Camila offered her album Mala Madre for free download. It was downloaded 73,500 times in just 24 hours from her website. This was a new record in Chile. Camila said the album was a tribute to women she admired. These included artists like Cecilia Vicuña, Violeta Parra, and Gabriela Mistral. At the 2016 Pulsar Awards, Camila Moreno won several honors. She received awards for Best Pop Artist, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year. She is also famous for her creative music videos.
Recent Projects
In February 2019, Camila brought back her Caramelitus duo with Tomás Preuss. They performed together at the Womad festival. Later in 2019, she introduced her new project called Pangea. This project included two new albums and several concerts. It also featured a documentary film, also named Pangea, directed by Alberto Hayden. In late 2019, during a time of social change in Chile, Camila took part in many spontaneous concerts. She also spoke out about the military's actions.
