Camille Benjamin (born June 22, 1966) is an American former professional tennis player. She played on the WTA tour from 1981 to 1994.
Camille's father, Carl Benjamin, was a math professor at Bakersfield College. He also played college tennis. Her parents were immigrants from Panama.
Camille's Tennis Career
Camille Benjamin had an exciting career in professional tennis. She was known for her powerful left-handed play. She also used a two-handed backhand shot.
Grand Slam Success
One of Camille's biggest achievements was reaching the semifinals of the French Open in 1984. This is one of the four biggest tennis tournaments in the world, called Grand Slams. To get there, she beat several tough players. These included Cláudia Monteiro, Jamie Golder, Catrin Jexell, Sabrina Goleš, and Lisa Bonder. She eventually lost to the legendary Chris Evert.
Camille also did well in other Grand Slam tournaments. She reached the third round of the Australian Open twice, in 1987 and 1989. At Wimbledon, she made it to the third round in both 1983 and 1984. She also reached the third round of the US Open three times, in 1985, 1986, and 1989.

In doubles, Camille had a record of 147 wins and 246 losses. She won one doubles title during her career. This win happened in September 1986 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with her partner Dianne Van Rensburg. She also reached two other doubles finals. Her highest doubles ranking was No. 72 in the world.
She also won one singles title in a smaller tournament called the ITF circuit. This win was in Schenectady, New York, in 1987.
