The Camp White Station Hospital Administration Building is a special historic building in White City, Oregon. It was built in 1942, during World War II. This building was originally part of a large training base called Camp White. It helped manage the hospital for soldiers at the base.

Even today, the building is still used for medical services. It helps the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) care for people who served in the military. It is known as Building 200 of the Southern Oregon - White City VA Rehabilitation Center & Clinics.

What is the Camp White Hospital Building?

This building is a two-story brick structure. It has a classic look, with simple features from the Colonial Revival style. This style was popular for buildings in the 1940s. The building is located at 8495 Crater Lake Highway.

It is considered the best-preserved hospital building from the original Camp White base. This means it looks very much like it did when it was first built. Because of its history and good condition, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2016. This list includes important places across the United States.

Built for War

The Camp White training base was very important during World War II. Thousands of soldiers trained there before going to fight. A large hospital was needed to care for these soldiers. The Administration Building was the main office for this hospital. It managed everything from patient records to supplies.

The building was designed by an architect named Myron Hunt. He helped create a functional and sturdy building. It was built quickly to meet the needs of the war effort.

Helping Veterans Today

After World War II ended, Camp White changed. Many of its original buildings were taken down. However, the Hospital Administration Building remained. It continued to serve a medical purpose.

Today, it is part of the VA Rehabilitation Center & Clinics. The VA helps military veterans with their healthcare needs. This building still houses offices that support medical care for veterans. It shows how a building from the past can still be useful today.

A Special Historic Building

Being listed on the National Register of Historic Places means this building is recognized as important. It tells a story about World War II and how the United States cared for its soldiers. It also shows how buildings can be reused and preserved over time.

The building is a reminder of Camp White's role in history. It stands as a symbol of service and care for those who served our country.
