The Campsis × tagliabuana plant, also known as Madame Galen, is a special kind of plant. It was created in the mid-1800s by mixing two other plants: the American trumpet vine (Campsis radicans) and the Chinese trumpet vine (Campsis grandiflora). This mix is called a hybrid.

This plant grows beautiful, trumpet-shaped flowers. They are usually orange to red and can be up to 3 in (8 cm) long. These flowers grow in groups of 6 to 12.

Discover the Madame Galen Trumpet Vine

The Madame Galen is a perennial vine. This means it is a woody plant that lives for many years. It likes to climb! It uses special aerial roots, like tiny sticky fingers, to attach itself to walls or other structures. It climbs very well, just like ivy.

What Makes This Plant Special?

The leaves of the Madame Galen vine are dark green and can be 8–12 in (20–30 cm) long. They are also deciduous, which means they fall off in the autumn.

Its bright flowers are a big hit with nature! Bees, butterflies, and birds love to visit them.

Where Does This Plant Come From?

The second part of the plant's scientific name, tagliabuana, honors two Italian plant experts from the 1800s. Their names were Alberto Linneo and Carlo Ausonio Tagliabue.

Growing This Beautiful Plant

Like its parent plants, the Madame Galen vine is quite hardy. This means it can handle different weather conditions. However, if you live in a cooler temperate area, it's best to plant it against a sunny wall. This helps it grow lots of its amazing flowers.

This plant is so beautiful and easy to grow that it has won an important prize. It received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. This award is given to plants that are excellent for gardening.
