Canóvanas barrio-pueblo is a special part of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. It is like the main town center or "seat" of the Canóvanas municipality. In 2010, about 4,060 people lived here.
Just like in Spain, towns in Puerto Rico often have a central area called a pueblo. This pueblo usually has a main square, important government buildings like the city hall, and a Catholic church. Every year, special festivals called Fiestas patronales (patron saint festivals) are held in this central square.

The Central Plaza: A Town's Heart
The central plaza, or town square, is a very important place. It's where people gather for fun events and to socialize from morning until night. In the early 1800s, Spanish laws called the Laws of the Indies guided how towns were built in Puerto Rico.
These laws said the plaza should be big enough for all the people living nearby. They also said that the streets around the plaza should have comfortable walkways. These walkways would protect people from the sun and rain.
