Scientists have studied the Cape York graceful tree frog very carefully. They say it is closely related to another frog called Ranoidea gracilenta. It is even more closely related to Ranoidea auae.
For a long time, scientists thought the Cape York graceful tree frog was the same species as Ranoidea gracilenta. They look very much alike! But in 2016, after more research, scientists officially recognized the Cape York graceful tree frog as its own unique species.
