Life and Work in Capolat
The main way people make a living in Capolat is through farming. They especially focus on raising animals like cattle, pigs, and lambs. Many farms also grow crops.
These crops include potatoes, wheat, and corn. A large part of the land is covered by pine and oak forests. Because of this, cutting down trees for wood, known as logging, is also an important part of the local economy.
A Look Back in Time: Capolat's History
The town of Capolat grew up around Capolat Castle. This castle was the home of an important local family. In the year 899, a special religious place called a Benedictine Monastery was started here. It was founded by Bishop Nantigís of Urgell.
A few years later, in 905, a countess named Adalaiz gave this monastery to another monastery. This one was called Sant Joan de les Abadesses.
The church of Sant Martí de Coforb is very old. It was first mentioned in a document from the year 839. Another old church, Sant Serni de Terrers, was built in the 1200s. It is located in the northwest part of the municipality.
