Capparis decidua is a special plant known by many names like karir, kair, and kirir. It's either a small tree with lots of branches or a bushy shrub. You can find it mostly in the Thar Desert and other hot, dry places in southern Asia.

This plant has many thin branches and hardly any leaves, except for tiny ones on new shoots. It usually doesn't grow taller than 5 meters (about 15 feet). It's amazing because it can live in very dry conditions, just like a camel can go a long time without water!

What Makes Kair Special?

The kair plant is very tough. It can grow where there is very little water. This type of plant is called a xerophyte. It's also able to grow in salty soil, which is hard for most plants.

Edible Parts and Uses

The small berries from the kair plant can be eaten. In Rajasthan, India, these berries are mixed with beans from another plant called sangri. This mix makes a popular vegetable dish known as "Kair sangri." Many people think it's a delicious treat!

Kair berries are also used to make tasty pickles. These pickles can be stored for a long time, so people can enjoy them even when the fresh berries are not available.
