The Captain George Anderson House is a special building in Sackville, New Brunswick. People also call it the Octagonal House because of its unique eight-sided shape. It was built in 1855 by Captain George Anderson, who was a sailor and built ships. The house stayed in his family until 1901. For many years, a company used it to store things, but they always kept it in good shape.

A House on the Move

The Town of Sackville bought the house in the late 1980s. They fixed it up and moved it to King Street. In June 1989, it became the Sackville Visitor Information Centre. This is where tourists could get information about the town.

In 2007, the Octagonal House became home to two new groups. These were the Sackville Citizens Band and the Tantramar Adult Learning Center. The band used it for practice, and the learning center helped adults with their education.

In June 2012, the house was moved again. It now sits right next to the Boultenhouse Heritage Centre in Sackville. This keeps it close to other important historical buildings.

A Special Historic Building

The Captain George Anderson House is recognized as a national historic site of Canada. This means it's an important part of Canada's history. In 1999, Sackville also named it a local heritage site. This shows how much the community values this unique building.
