Cardonald Parish Church is a beautiful old church in Glasgow, Scotland. It's part of the Church of Scotland and has been around since the late 1800s. It's located in the Cardonald area of the city.

History of the Church Community
The church community, or 'congregation,' started on January 26, 1887. Their first meeting was in a school room in Cardonald. In 1889, they got their first minister. On July 14, 1890, the area of Cardonald officially became its own church district, called a 'parish.' This new parish was separated from the larger parishes of Paisley and Govan. At first, Cardonald Parish Church was part of the Paisley church group. However, in 1929, it joined the Presbytery of Glasgow, which is a larger group of churches in the Glasgow area.
The Church Building: Design and Construction
The church building was designed by an architect named Peter Macgregor Chalmers. He used a style called early English Gothic, which was popular for churches. The building was constructed between 1887 and 1889. It was built using a type of stone called Ballochmyle red sandstone. The church was officially opened and dedicated on February 17, 1889.
Building Additions and Changes
Over the years, parts of the church were added or changed.
- In 1899, the west gable was built. A gable is the triangular part of a wall at the end of a pitched roof.
- The east gable was added in 1925. This included extending the chancel, which is the area around the altar.
- The church halls, which are separate rooms used for meetings and activities, were built in 1940.

The inside of Cardonald Parish Church has many interesting features.
Chancel and Furniture
The chancel area includes a special pulpit made of alabaster and stone. A pulpit is where the minister stands to give sermons. This one was made by a company called Jackson Brown & Co. You can also see an oak communion table, a reading desk, and benches for the elders of the church.
Stained Glass Windows
The church is home to several beautiful stained glass windows.
- The chancel has a large window with three sections, created by J & W Guthrie.
- There is also a series of six windows designed by Sadie McLellan, a well-known artist.
- A special Millennium window was created by Roland Mitton to celebrate the year 2000.
