Carey Mordaunt, Countess of Peterborough and Monmouth (born Carey Fraser around 1658 – died May 13, 1709), was an English courtier. She was a special attendant, called a maid of honour, to King Charles II's wife, Catherine of Braganza. She held this role from 1674 to 1680. Carey Mordaunt was also one of the famous Hampton Court Beauties. These were women whose portraits were painted by Sir Godfrey Kneller for Queen Mary II.

Her Life and Family

Who Were Her Parents?

Carey Fraser's father was Sir Alexander Fraser. He was the 1st Baronet of Durris in Kincardineshire. He lived from 1607 to 1681 and was a doctor to King Charles II. Her mother was Mary Carey.

Her Marriage and Children

In 1678, Carey married Charles Mordaunt. He was then known as the 2nd Viscount Mordaunt. He later became the 3rd Earl of Peterborough and was also given the title Earl of Monmouth in 1689. Their marriage was kept secret until May 1680.
