A Daredevil's Career
Carey Hart turned his passion for motorcycles into a career when he became a professional racer at age 18. He joined the AMA supercross circuit, a series of exciting motorcycle races. Hart was one of the first athletes to compete in freestyle motocross, a sport where riders do amazing tricks and jumps.
Making a Name with New Tricks
In the late 1990s, Hart started inventing his own tricks. He was the first to perform a move called the "superman seat grab" at major events. In 1999, he created a trick called the "invert superman," which is now famously known as the "Hart Attack." His creativity and skill earned him a bronze medal at the Summer Gravity Games and a gold medal at the Australian X Games that same year.
The Famous Backflip
Hart's most famous moment came at the 2000 Gravity Games. He attempted something no one had ever done before in a competition: a backflip on a full-sized 250cc motorcycle. While he didn't land it perfectly, his daring attempt made history and pushed the sport forward.
He tried the backflip again at the 2001 X Games but had a bad crash and was injured. Despite the setback, he kept competing. In 2002, he finally landed the backflip at the X-Games in Philadelphia, earning a silver medal for his amazing effort.
Overcoming Injuries
Like many extreme sports athletes, Hart faced serious injuries. Early in his career, he had a major accident involving a tractor on a track. Later, during a tour with skateboarder Tony Hawk, he had another bad crash that broke bones in his arms and legs. This injury kept him from competing for three years, but he showed great determination by eventually returning to the sport.
Beyond the Racetrack
Besides racing, Hart is a successful businessman. In 2004, he opened the Hart & Huntington Tattoo Company in Las Vegas. The shop became so popular that it was featured in a reality TV show called Inked. The brand also launched a clothing line inspired by tattoo art and action sports.
Hart also created his own supercross and off-road racing teams. He competed in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series and was even nominated for "Rookie of the Year."
Personal Life
Hart grew up in Las Vegas, where he was raised by his father, Tom Hart, along with his younger brother, Anthony.
In 2001, Hart met the singer Pink at the X Games in Philadelphia. They began dating, and in 2005, Pink proposed to him in a unique way. During one of his races, she held up a pit board that said, "Will you marry me?" He pulled out of the race to say yes, and they were married in Costa Rica in 2006.
The couple separated for a time in 2008 but later got back together. They have two children: a daughter, Willow Sage, born in 2011, and a son, Jameson Moon, born in 2016.
Hart has appeared in several of Pink's music videos, including "So What" and "Just Give Me a Reason." He has also had small roles in movies like xXx and Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle.
