Carl's Early Life and Football Journey
Carl Peterson was born in a place called Meekatharra in Western Australia. When he was two years old, his family moved to Kununurra. Later, he moved to Perth to finish high school. While in Perth, he trained and played football at the Clontarf Football Academy. This academy helps young Indigenous Australians with their education and sports.
Playing for Claremont
Carl started his senior football career with the Claremont Football Club. This club plays in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL). The WAFL is a strong football league in Western Australia, just below the AFL. In 2006, Carl played five games for Claremont. This included two important final games. His good playing caught the eye of teams in the AFL.
Joining the AFL: Richmond and Hawthorn
Carl's talent led to him being chosen in the 2006 AFL Draft. This is a special event where AFL teams pick new players. The Richmond Football Club picked Carl with their 60th choice.
However, Carl did not play any games for Richmond. At the end of the 2007 AFL season, Richmond decided not to keep him on their team. This is called being "delisted." After leaving Richmond, Carl joined the St Mary's team. They play in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL). He was part of the St Mary's team that won the championship in the 2007/08 season.
Later, Carl got another chance in the AFL. The Hawthorn Football Club picked him in the 2009 Rookie Draft. This draft is for players who might need a bit more development.
AFL Debut with Hawthorn
Carl Peterson made his first AFL game appearance in the very first round of the 2010 AFL season. He played well in his debut game. He kicked a goal and got 15 "disposals" in the first half. A disposal means he got the ball and used it, like kicking or handpassing. He played a total of 17 games for Hawthorn, all during the 2010 season.
Carl's Later Football Career
After his time in the AFL, Carl continued to play football. In 2011, he played for a team called Old Carey in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA). This is a league for amateur players.
In 2012, Carl signed up to play for the Northern Blues team. They are part of the Victorian Football League (VFL). The VFL is another strong league, similar to the WAFL, and is a step below the AFL. More recently, Carl played for the Perth Football League team SNESA.
