Her Journey in Computer Science

Carla Brodley graduated from McGill University in 1985. When she first started college, she thought about studying English. Then she switched to economics. But after taking a computer programming class, she found her true passion. She decided to study both mathematics and computer science.

After college, she worked for a while as a consultant and computer programmer in Boston. She then decided to go back to school. She planned to get a master's degree in artificial intelligence. But she enjoyed it so much that she continued her studies and earned a Ph.D. in 1994.

After getting her doctorate, she became a professor at Purdue University. In 2004, she moved to Tufts University. From 2010 to 2013, she was the head of the computer science department at Tufts. She also worked with the Tufts Medical Center. In 2014, she moved to Northeastern University, where she continues her important work today.

Awards and Recognition

Carla Brodley has received many honors for her work. In 2016, she was named a Fellow of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). She earned this award for her work in machine learning. She was also recognized for her efforts to increase the number of women in computer science.

She is also a Fellow of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). This group recognizes leaders in AI research. Additionally, she is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). This is one of the world's largest general scientific societies.
