Carla Juaçaba, born in 1976, is a talented architect from Brazil. She is famous for winning the very first arcVision Prize. This is a special international award given to women who are excellent in architecture.

Becoming an Architect

Carla Juaçaba was born in the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She studied architecture and urban planning at Universidade Santa Úrsula. After that, she continued her studies at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro, focusing on building structures.

Later, she also taught at the Pontifical Catholic University. In 2000, Carla started her own architecture company. She designs buildings for both public and private clients. Her main work includes homes and cultural buildings like museums.

Carla has also worked with another architect, Gisela Magalhães, on many museum projects. She has shared her knowledge by giving talks at famous universities. These include the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the University of Toronto, and Columbia University.

Amazing Projects and Awards

Carla Juaçaba is known for her creative and unique designs. The judges for the arcVision prize were very impressed by her work on the Humanidade Pavilion in 2012. This building was made for a big meeting called the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.

The judges said she was "creative in finding new solutions." They also noted her "great sensitivity to the place where her works will be." This means she designs buildings that fit well with their surroundings. In 2014, she was also nominated for another important award, the Schelling Architecture Award.

Carla was chosen for a special project in 2018. She designed a chapel for the Vatican's display at the Venice Biennale of Architecture. This is a very important art and architecture event.

In 2022, she created an art piece called "Fil d'Air" (which means "Thread of Air"). This was for an exhibition in Geneva about temporary homes.
