Her Early Life and Education
Carla Rebecca Lockhart grew up in Aughnacloy. This town is in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. Her parents are Kenneth and Valerie Lockhart. She went to Aughnacloy High School. After that, she studied at Armagh Tech. This college is now part of Southern Regional College. Later, she earned a business degree from the Ulster University. Carla was interested in politics from a young age. She was part of the DUP's Young Democrats group when she was younger.

Local Government Roles
In 2007, Carla was first elected to the Craigavon Borough Council. She represented the Lurgan area. From 2012 to 2013, she served as the Mayor of Craigavon. This was a big responsibility. She also led the Local Government Association of Northern Ireland. This was from 2015 to 2016. In 2016, she left her council role. She wanted to run for the Assembly elections.
Becoming an MLA
While working as a councillor, Carla also worked full-time. She was at the Lurgan DUP Advice Centre. In 2016, she was elected as an MLA. This means she became a Member of the Legislative Assembly. She represented Upper Bann in the Northern Ireland Assembly.
Becoming an MP
On November 8, 2019, Carla Lockhart announced something new. She would run for the Upper Bann Westminster constituency. This is a seat in the UK Parliament. On December 13, she won the election. She became the new MP for Upper Bann. She took over from David Simpson. After winning, she stepped down from her MLA role.
What She Does Now
Carla Lockhart is involved in her local community. She is a governor at two schools. These are Lurgan Junior High School and Magheralin Primary School. This means she helps guide these schools. In November 2022, she explained why the DUP stopped the Northern Ireland Executive from working. She said the party had a public vote to do this.
