Carlos Agostinho do Rosário was born on October 26, 1954. He is a politician from Mozambique, a country in Southeast Africa. He served as the Prime Minister of Mozambique from January 17, 2015, until March 3, 2022.
Carlos do Rosário is a member of the FRELIMO political party. He worked under President Filipe Nyusi. Before becoming Prime Minister, he held many important jobs. He was a civil servant in the 1970s. He also served as the Governor of Zambezia Province from 1987 to 1994. Later, he was a Member of Parliament for a short time in 1994. He then became the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries until 1999. After that, he worked as a diplomat in Asia, serving as an ambassador.

Early Life and Education
Carlos do Rosário was born in a city called Maxixe in Mozambique. He studied economics at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Maputo, the capital city. He then traveled to the United Kingdom to continue his studies. There, he earned a master's degree in Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Economy from Wye College.
Working in Government
Carlos do Rosário began his career in 1977. He worked for the Ministry of Public Works in the economics and finance department. He stayed there until 1983. From 1980 to 1982, he also taught classes in the evenings at the Industrial Institute of Maputo. In 1983, he became the main economist for an agricultural company called Citrinos de Manica.
In 1987, he was chosen to be the Governor of Zambezia Province. He also became the prime secretary of the Provincial Committee. In 1994, he briefly served as a member of the Assembly of the Republic, which is like the country's parliament. Soon after, he was appointed as the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries. His time as Minister ended in 1999.
Diplomatic Roles
After his time as a minister, Carlos do Rosário became a diplomat. From 2002 to 2008, he was Mozambique's High Commissioner to India and Sri Lanka. A High Commissioner is like an ambassador between Commonwealth countries.
In 2009, he became the Ambassador to Indonesia. He also represented Mozambique in Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and East Timor at the same time. He held this important role until January 17, 2015. On that date, President Filipe Nyusi chose him to be the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister of Mozambique
When Carlos do Rosário became Prime Minister, a new government was formed. Some opposition politicians from the RENAMO party expressed concerns. They noted that all 22 ministers in the new government were from the FRELIMO party. They felt the government should include more people from different parties.
In January 2020, Carlos do Rosário began a new term as Prime Minister. However, on March 3, 2022, President Nyusi dismissed him from his position. Six other members of the Cabinet were also dismissed at the same time.
Hobbies and Interests
Carlos do Rosário enjoys football very much. He even played for the junior national team when he was younger. While he was working as a diplomat in Indonesia, he helped create a football team for diplomats.
