Playing for Clubs
Starting at Atlético Madrid
Carlos Aguilera was born in Madrid, Spain. He began his football journey at Atlético Madrid. His first game for the main team was on March 26, 1988. Before that, he played for the club's reserve team, Atlético Madrid B.
He stayed with Atlético Madrid until 1993. During this time, he helped the team win the Copa del Rey (a major Spanish cup) two years in a row, in 1991 and 1992.
Time at Tenerife
After leaving Atlético Madrid, Carlos joined CD Tenerife. He played for them for three years. One of his best seasons was 1995–96. He scored five goals in 39 games. That season, Tenerife even qualified for the UEFA Cup, which is a big European competition.
Interestingly, while Tenerife was doing well, his old club, Atlético Madrid, won both the league and the cup that same year.
Returning to Atlético Madrid
In 1996, Carlos Aguilera went back to his first club, Atlético Madrid. He stayed with them for many more years. Even when the team was relegated from La Liga in 2000, he remained loyal. He played in 78 games and scored 14 goals during their two seasons in the Segunda División (the second division).
Carlos retired from playing football in 2005, when he was 36 years old.
After Retirement
Six years after retiring, Carlos returned to Atlético Madrid. He worked in different management roles for the club. In October 2017, he stopped working as the youth system coordinator.

He was part of the Spanish squad for the World Cup in France. He started in two group stage matches: against Paraguay (a 0–0 draw) and against Bulgaria (a 6–1 win). However, Spain did not make it past the group stage.
