Playing Career of Carlos Aguilera

Starting at Atlético Madrid

He played for Atlético Madrid, who are also known as the Colchoneros, until 1993. During this time, he helped his team win the Copa del Rey (King's Cup) twice in a row. These victories happened in 1991 and 1992.

Time at CD Tenerife

After leaving Atlético Madrid, Aguilera joined CD Tenerife. He played for this team for three years. His best season in La Liga was in 1995–96. He scored five goals in 39 matches that season. His team, Tenerife, even qualified for the UEFA Cup, which is a big European competition. This happened in the same year that Atlético Madrid won a historic "double" (winning both the league and the cup).

Returning to Atlético Madrid

In 2003–04, he even agreed to earn less money to stay with the club. His great performance after returning led to him being chosen for the Spanish national team. His first game for Spain was on September 24, 1997, against Slovakia. This was a qualifying match for the 1998 FIFA World Cup.

Playing for Spain

Aguilera was part of the Spanish squad for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France. He started in two matches during the tournament. These were against Paraguay (which ended 0–0) and Bulgaria (where Spain won 6–1). Overall, he played in seven international games for Spain within one year.
