Carmen Jiménez Serrano (born September 21, 1920 – died October 19, 2016) was a talented Spanish artist. She was known for her amazing paintings and sculptures. She also taught art at a university.
Her Life and Art
Carmen Jiménez was born in a town called La Zubia in Spain. This was on September 21, 1920. After the Spanish Civil War ended in 1939, she started studying art. She went to the School of Arts and Crafts in Granada.
At first, Carmen was interested in embroidery. But she met other students who were studying fine arts. They inspired her to try for the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. While she prepared, she worked in a workshop. There, she created religious sculptures.
Carmen joined the Madrid art school in 1940. She got a scholarship from her hometown to help pay for it. At this school, she studied painting. She also discovered her love for sculpture.
In 1944, Carmen married another sculptor, Antonio Cano CorreaSeville, she moved with him. She started working as an assistant teacher at the same art school. This school was called the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de Santa Isabel de Hungría.
. When he became a professor inLater, in 1984, Carmen made history. She became the first woman to be a full professor there. She kept teaching even when the art school joined the University of Seville. Carmen Jiménez passed away in Seville on October 19, 2016. She was 96 years old.
