María del Carmen Moriyón Entrialgo (born October 25, 1966) is a Spanish doctor and politician. She is famous for being the mayor of Gijón, a city in northern Spain. She has led the city during two separate times.
Before entering politics, she worked as a surgeon. Carmen Moriyón is the daughter of Maximino Moriyón Álvarez and Margarita Entrialgo Álvarez.

Early Life and Education
Carmen Moriyón was born and raised in Gijón. For her early education, she attended two schools: the College of the Holy Angel of the Guardian and the College of the Immaculate.
After finishing school in 1984, she decided to study medicine. She earned a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Oviedo in 1990. Later, she became a specialist in breast health (a field called Mastology) at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 2001.
Career as a Doctor
As a doctor, Moriyón focused on helping patients with breast cancer. She was in charge of the Breast Cancer Unit at the Cabueñes Hospital in Gijón. She held this important job until she was elected mayor and began her career in politics.
A Career in Politics
Moriyón became a key figure in the Asturias Forum political party. On September 29, 2018, she was chosen as the party's president.
First Time as Mayor of Gijón
In 2011, Carmen Moriyón ran for mayor of Gijón. Her party, the Asturias Forum, won nine seats on the city council. With support from another political group, the Popular Party, she was elected mayor.
This was a major event in the city's history. She became the first mayor of Gijón who was not from the socialist party since 1979. She served as mayor for eight years, from 2011 until 2019.
Return to the Mayor's Office
After her first term, Moriyón remained active in politics. In the 2023 local elections, she ran for mayor of Gijón again. On June 17, 2023, she was successfully elected, beginning her second term as the city's leader.
