María del Carmen Moriyón Entrialgo (born on October 25, 1966) is a Spanish surgeon and a politician. She is known for serving as the mayor of Gijón, a city in Spain. She has been mayor for two different periods.

Who is Carmen Moriyón?
Carmen Moriyón was born in Gijón, Spain. Her parents are Maximino Moriyón Álvarez and Margarita Entrialgo Álvarez. Before becoming a politician, she was a medical doctor. She worked as a surgeon and was in charge of the Breast Cancer Unit at Cabueñes Hospital.
Becoming Mayor of Gijón
In 2011, Carmen Moriyón decided to enter politics. She led the political party called Asturias Forum in the local elections for Gijón. These elections choose who will run the city. Her party won 9 councilors, who are like local representatives.
With support from another party, the Popular Party, she became the mayor. This was a big moment because she was the first mayor of Gijón not from the socialist party since 1979. She served as mayor from 2011 to 2019.
Leading a Political Party
On September 29, 2018, Carmen Moriyón took on another important role. She became the president of her political party, Asturias Forum. As president, she helps lead the party and its goals.
Returning as Mayor
After her first term as mayor ended in 2019, Carmen Moriyón ran for the position again in 2023. She was elected mayor of Gijón once more. This shows her dedication to serving her city.
