Carol Cheng Yu Ling (Jyutping: Lua error in Module:Unihan_pronunciation at line 35: attempt to call field 'lookup_kCantonese' (a nil value).; born September 9, 1957), often called Do Do, is a famous host and actress from Hong Kong. She became very well-known after starring in the TVB series Man in the Net (1979-1980). Carol Cheng is special because she was the first person to win both the top film award (the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress) and the top TV award (the TVB Anniversary Award for Best Actress) in Hong Kong. These are the highest honors for an actress there!

Early Life and Career Start

Carol Cheng was born in Hong Kong. She went to English schools in Hong Kong. After finishing high school, she joined a special acting program at Commercial Television Limited in 1975. The very next year, she started her career as a TV host.

When Commercial Television closed in 1978, Carol moved to Television Broadcasts Limited, also known as TVB. This is where she truly became famous as both an actress and a host.

Hosting and Acting Success

Carol Cheng has hosted many big events, like the Miss Hong Kong Beauty Pageant and the TVB Anniversary Awards. She also hosted popular variety shows, including The Weakest Link. She is also known for working with the hip hop group FAMA on TV shows.

In 1984, Carol won the award for Best New Performer at the 3rd Hong Kong Film Awards. She later won the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress twice, in 1988 and 1991. In 2000, she won two big awards at the TVB Anniversary Awards: My Favourite TV Role and Best Actress for her role in War of the Genders.

Since the early 2000s, Carol Cheng has mostly focused on hosting shows instead of acting.

Recent Activities

In October 2022, Carol Cheng left TVB after working with the company for 44 years. She then started her own YouTube talk show called the Do Show in June 2023.
