Carolina Darias San Sebastián was born in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain, on November 25, 1965. She is a Spanish civil servant and a politician from the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). She served as the Minister of Health of Spain from 2021 to 2023. Before that, from 2020 to 2021, she was the Minister of Territorial Policy and Civil Service. Both roles were under Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez.
As a member of the PSOE, Carolina Darias also held important roles in the Canary Islands. In July 2019, she became the regional Minister of Economy, Knowledge and Employment. She was also the President of the Parliament of the Canary Islands from June 2015 to June 2019.

Carolina Darias was born in Las Palmas on November 25, 1965. She studied law at the University of La Laguna. This education helped her prepare for a career in public service and politics.
Political Career
Carolina Darias has had a long career in politics, both in her home region and at the national level. She is a member of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE).
Regional Politics
Darias started her political journey in her hometown.
- From 1999 to 2004, she was a member of the city council in Las Palmas. This means she helped make decisions for the city.
- She then worked as a government sub-delegate from 2004 to 2007. This role involved representing the central government in the region.
- In 2007, she was elected to the Parliament of the Canary Islands. However, she left this position a year later. She became the director of Territory, Town Planning and Housing for the Las Palmas city council.
In 2015, Carolina Darias made history. She was elected Speaker of the Parliament of the Canary Islands. She was the first woman to hold this important position.
National Politics
On January 11, 2020, Carolina Darias joined the national government. She was appointed Minister of Territorial Policy and Public Function. In this role, she helped manage how the central government worked with different parts of Spain.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked closely with the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa. She attended many important meetings about health and coordination. Because of her experience, on January 26, 2021, she was chosen to become the new Minister of Health. She took over from Salvador Illa. As Minister of Health, she was in charge of Spain's health system.
Personal Life
On March 12, 2020, it was reported that Carolina Darias had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. This is the virus that caused the coronavirus pandemic. She was the second person in the Spanish government to be infected. She recovered and continued her important work.
