How Carpenter Got Its Name

Carpenter was named after one of three important men from the area. These men all had the last name Carpenter. One was Amos Carpenter, Sr., who was an older resident. Another was Jesse C. Carpenter. The third was J. L. Carpenter, who was a State Senator. A State Senator is someone elected to help make laws for their state. Senator Carpenter helped the community get a railroad line and a train station. This made it easier for people and goods to travel to and from Carpenter.
