Carpenter is a small place located in Clark County, South Dakota, United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town usually does.
The government doesn't count how many people live in Carpenter separately. However, it does have a post office that serves the area with the ZIP code 57322. Even though Carpenter is very small, only about one city block in size, some businesses like Agtegra, the Carpenter Cafe, and Dick's Garage are still active there.
History of Carpenter
Carpenter got its name from a man named John C. Opsahl. He was the local postmaster. Mr. Opsahl named the community after his friend, G. W. Carpenter. G. W. Carpenter used to work as a land office agent in a nearby town called Watertown.
