Carpenter's Point is a small community located in Cecil County, Maryland, in the United States. It is known as an unincorporated community. This means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it is managed by the county government.

A Glimpse into History

Carpenter's Point holds a special place in the history of Cecil County. It was the very first permanent settlement in the county. This important event happened on July 20, 1658.

The First Settlers

A man named William Carpenter was the first to claim land here. He was granted about 400 acres (1.6 km2) of land. This area was called Anna Catherine Neck. It was located next to a waterway known today as Principio Creek. In 1662, this land was given to Simon Carpenter.

Early Community Life

Life at Carpenter's Point began to take shape. On June 7, 1674, an important court meeting was held there. This meeting took place at the home of Francis Wright. This shows that Carpenter's Point was an active and recognized place even in those early days.

Captured in Art

The beauty and history of Carpenter's Point were even captured in art. A famous painter named James Peale created a painting. It is titled “The Ramsay-Polk Family at Carpenter’s Point, Cecil County, Maryland.” This painting shows the landing area in the background. It gives us a peek into what the community looked like in the 18th century.
