Carpentersville got its start around the year 1840. It was founded by a person named Philip Carpenter. The community was named after him, honoring his role in its beginning.
For many years, Carpentersville had its own post office. This post office first opened its doors in 1850. Back then, a post office was a very important place for people to send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office in Carpentersville eventually closed down in 1910.
