Carposina adreptella is a type of moth that belongs to the Carposinidae family. This moth is special because it is endemic to New Zealand, meaning it is found naturally only in that country.
About Carposina adreptella
This moth is a small insect that flies around. Like all moths, it goes through a life cycle that includes being a caterpillar before turning into a winged adult.
Why its name was confusing
For a long time, people thought Carposina adreptella was the same as the New Zealand raspberry budmoth. This happened because a scientist named Edward Meyrick made a mistake when he looked at the original samples of the moth.
However, scientists later found out that the New Zealand raspberry budmoth was actually a different species. This other moth is now known as Carposina rubophaga. So, while Carposina adreptella was once confused with a moth that affects raspberries, it is actually its own unique species.
