Carrao-tepui, also known as Karrao, is a special kind of flat-topped mountain called a tepui. It is located in the Bolívar state of Venezuela. Imagine a giant table mountain, that's what a tepui looks like!

Carrao-tepui stands very tall, reaching about 2,200 meters (7,200 feet) high. Its flat top is covered with a thick forest and is about 1.25 square kilometers (0.48 square miles) in size. This mountain is part of a group of mountains called the Ptari Massif. It sits just northeast of another tepui called Ptari-tepui. These two mountains share a large sloped area of about 28 square kilometers (11 square miles). To the north of Carrao-tepui, you can find a big ridge known as Sororopán-tepui.

What is a Tepui?

A tepui is like a natural fortress, with steep, cliff-like sides and a flat top. These unique mountains are found mostly in the Guiana Highlands of South America, especially in Venezuela. They are often called "islands in the sky" because their tops are cut off from the land below. This means that plants and animals living on top of a tepui can be very different from those found at the base. Many species found on tepuis exist nowhere else on Earth!

Location and Surroundings

Carrao-tepui is located in a remote and wild part of Venezuela. This area is known for its incredible natural beauty and diverse wildlife. The region around Carrao-tepui is part of a larger ecosystem that includes rainforests and savannas. Exploring these areas can be challenging due to the dense vegetation and rugged terrain.
