Carrie Lucas is an American R&B singer. She was born in Carmel, California on October 1, 1945. In 1976, she signed with Soul Train Records. Over seven years, Carrie Lucas released six studio albums with Soul Train and Solar Records.
Carrie Lucas was married to Dick Griffey, who founded Soul Train Records and Solar Records. They were married from 1974 until his death in 2010. Her daughter, Carolyn Griffey, is also a singer.

Carrie Lucas: Her Music Journey
Carrie Lucas started her music career in 1977. Her first album was called Simply Carrie. It had two popular songs: "I Gotta Keep Dancing" and "Gotta Get Away from Your Love." "I Gotta Keep Dancing" became a hit, reaching number 64 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
More Albums and Hits
In 1978, Carrie Lucas released her second album, Street Corner Symphony. The famous group The Whispers sang background vocals on this album. The album's title song was a tribute to the doo-wop groups from the 1960s. This album was released on Dick Griffey's Solar Records label.
Her 1979 album, Carrie Lucas in Danceland, was very successful. Other artists like Jody Watley and Lakeside helped with background vocals. The song "Dance with You" became a big hit. It helped the album reach number 37 on the U.S. Dance Album chart. "Dance with You" also reached number 40 in the UK Singles Chart. Later, a famous DJ named Armand van Helden used parts of "Dance with You" in his 1999 hit song, "You Don't Know Me (Armand Van Helden song)."
Her 1980 album, Portrait of Carrie, had three smaller hit songs. One was a new version of her first hit, called "Keep Smilin'." Other songs included "It's Not What You Got (It's How You Use It)" and "Career Girl."
Later Music and Retirement
Carrie Lucas's next album, Still in Love, came out in 1982. It featured two popular songs: "Men" and "Show Me Where You're Coming From." The famous musician Sheila E. helped write the album's title song.
Her most recent album, Horsin' Around, was released in 1985. It included four popular songs. One of them was a cover of Barbara Lewis's song "Hello Stranger." This version reached number 20 on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart.
Carrie Lucas's last known recording was in 1990 for the movie Lambada: Set the Night on Fire. She sang the song "I Like the Rhythm." After this, Carrie Lucas decided to stop making music. She wanted to focus on her family and her horses.
Recent Activities
In 1999, Unidisc Records in Canada released a Greatest Hits album for Carrie Lucas. This album included many of her popular songs.
Carrie Lucas released a new song called "Some Things Never Change" on May 15, 2018. This was her first new song since 1990. It was released on Solar Records UK. Carrie Lucas, her daughter Carolyn Griffey, and her son Lucas Griffey, along with Jessie Tsang, have relaunched Solar Records and Soul Train Records in the UK. This relaunch was featured in the UK magazine Soul Survivors.
In 2022, Carrie Lucas was part of a special TV show called Unsung on the TV One channel. This episode was about Dick Griffey and Solar Records. It aired on November 6, 2022.
