Carrizo de la Ribera is a small town and a larger area called a municipality in Spain. It is located in the Province of León, which is part of the Castile and León region. The town sits on the western side of the Órbigo River.
In 2018, about 2,269 people lived in the Carrizo de la Ribera municipality. This area includes the main town of Carrizo and other small villages. These villages are Huerga del Río, La Milla del Río, Quiñones del Río, and Villanueva de Carrizo.
Long ago, people say Carrizo de la Ribera was formed after two nearby towns were destroyed by fire. These towns were called San Miguel de las Ollas and Villar de las Ollas. People from those towns then moved to create Carrizo.
What to See in Carrizo de la Ribera
One of the most important places to visit is the Santa María de Carrizo monastery. This is a special building where Cistercian nuns live. These nuns are part of a very old Christian group.

The monastery was built a very long time ago, in the year 1176. It is so important that in 1974, it was named a national monument of Spain. This means it is a protected historical site.
