The Carteret ministry was a group of leaders who ran the government of Great Britain from 1742 to 1744. This government was formed by the Whig party. It came into power after the previous government, led by Robert Walpole, lost a vote by just one vote!

At first, the main leader of this new government was Spencer Compton, 1st Earl of Wilmington. He was like the "prime minister" or head of the government. But he passed away in 1743. After his death, Henry Pelham took over as the new prime minister.

The ministry is named after John Carteret, 2nd Baron Carteret. He was a very important person in the government. He served as the Northern Secretary and was a key supporter for both prime ministers. He stayed in his role until he resigned in 1744.
