Carwood is a small place in Indiana that doesn't have its own local government. It's called an unincorporated community. Carwood is located in Carr Township, which is part of Clark County.
Carwood's History
Carwood has an interesting history, especially its name! Long ago, this area was known as Muddyfork. It got this name from a stream called Muddy Fork that runs through the community.
Post Office and Name Change
A post office was opened here in 1858, also named Muddy Fork. This was a place where people could send and receive letters. Later, in 1902, the post office's name was changed to Carwood. The name Carwood probably came from John Carr, who was one of the first settlers in the area. The post office eventually closed down in 1933.
