History
Caryville was first known as Wheeler's Station. This name was used until 1866. That year, the town was renamed to honor Judge William Carey. He was an important landowner in the area.
Geography
Caryville is located in a valley. To the west, you'll find Cross Mountain. To the east, there are many rugged hills.
Just north of town is Cove Lake State Park. This park has a lake that was created by the Caryville Dam. The dam holds back the water from Cove Creek.
Two important highways meet in Caryville. These are Interstate 75 and U.S. Route 25W.
The town covers an area of about 5.83 square miles (15.10 square kilometers). Most of this is land, with a small part being water.
