History of Cascas
The story of Cascas goes back a very long time! Scientists have found signs that people lived here even in ancient times. They discovered old rock carvings called petroglyphs and cave paintings. These show that early communities were here.
Archaeologists have also found pottery from different ancient cultures. These include the Cupisnique, Mochica, Chimu, and Caxamarca cultures. This tells us that Cascas was once a peaceful and important place for a regional group of people.
The original name for the area was Caxcax, which meant "settlement of Indians." When the Spanish arrived, they founded a new town called San Gabriel Caxcax. This is written in old documents from the colonial period.
Cascas has always been important because of its location. It served as a pathway between the mountain communities and the people living on the coast.
Food and Drink in Cascas
Cascas is known for its tasty local treats, especially those made from grapes!
Northern Pisco Sour
In Peru, there's a special drink called pisco. Cascas produces a lot of pisco, which allows them to offer a unique "Pisco Sour norteño." This is a local version of the famous Pisco Sour cocktail.
Casquino Wine
Since 1975, there's a popular saying: "If you came to Cascas and didn't drink wine, then why did you come?" This shows how important wine is here. Grapes are grown all year round in Cascas. They make many types of wines, from malbec to special sacramental wine.
